Bathe the Cat

Crazy cat at work!

Granny is coming to visit at two, so everything needs to be cleaned. Dad then uses magnet alphabets to create a lengthy list on the refrigerator and designate each item to a family member. But he made a crucial mistake: He lists Bathe the Cat as the last item. The cat quickly changes all the alphabets on the fridge after noticing this. However, the cat also erred, which is sad. Mow the cat is the last item on the list after it has been jumbled. Oh no, was the cat trimmed?

We picked this book for its title. Kids will laugh at the hilarious tug-of-war between the dad and cat and the impending arrival of granny. The book is inclusive, too, with the portrayal of mixed-race and LGBTQ characters. Vibrant illustrations wonderfully complemented the narrative.

Bathe the Cat by Alice B. McGinty is a beautiful book for young kids because it has an inclusive, positive portrayal, a hilarious plot, and brightly colored illustrations by David Roberts.
